Our Founder

It began with a need.

Kathy ChastainLooper is both a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and an Ordained Christian Minister.  She works full-time in her private practice, California Christian Counseling (www.californiacounseling.net) and teaches a handful of the classes offered at Last Arrow.

Very early into her graduate program, Kathy began working in the offender-based & addiction-based communities.  Without fail, every client that she worked with, had experienced a profound loss of family, through death, violence, abuse, abandonment, or addiction. She noted that nearly all of her clients also brought up the subject of God in the initial session, many of whom wondered where he was in their tragedy and trauma.  This experience led her to become a volunteer Christian Bible Study teacher and Mentor at the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility. During that time, Kathy became the first minister to ever be allowed to baptize inmates on facility grounds. She was able to baptize five young women, in the Name of Jesus, while they finished serving out their sentence.  (For more information on her work with juveniles, visit (www.kathylooper.com)

Kathy worked with homeless youth in the Porterville area when she opened the runaway and homeless youth shelter

As a Christian-based clinical therapist, she has seen hundreds of clients. They range from 4-years old to 70-years old and come to therapy for various reasons. Beginning in the first few months of private practice, she noticed many of her clients were suffering from severe spiritual attacks, self-hatred, self-mutilation, body dysmorphia or murderous-suicidal ideation and intent.  She also noticed that many of these same clients had spiritual gifts and talents that they could not see in themselves, and those gifts were being used against them. Their identity had been shattered by the tragedies of life. While these issues are addressed in a clinical setting, she recognized that most people do not know or understand themselves or God. As a result, they have become fragmented, have a very negative self-image, or have a distorted way of thinking. There is a need to help people learn and grow in their knowledge of Jesus, their God-given identity, the spiritual forces that both work for and against us and a desire to help people discover and understand the gifts and talents God gave to each of us.

For example, Children with hypersensitivity, feel very deeply and sense everything, and it causes them great sorrow, anxiety and leaves them feeling as if something is wrong with them.  Adults who are hypersensitive, often hate this part of themselves because it has caused them much pain in life and they try to mask it, avoid it or bury it.  The reality is, sensitivity is a God-given gift he gives to us to help us discern such things as danger, peace, safety, spiritual activity, and other’s emotions.  When we understand why we have this gift, we can embrace it and use it to help others.

Last Arrow is a ministry devoted to educating people through short-term classes, discover their true self, their purpose, their gifting, and most of all, discover a true accurate understanding of God.

Why I Chose The Name Last Arrow

Several people have asked me why I named my nonprofit organization last arrow ministries.

I would give them a small version of the story and second kings chapter 13 when the prophet Elisha told the King of Israel to shoot his arrow and strike the ground. As many times as he shot his arrow, he would have victory over his enemy. Or I would tell them about the book I read by Erwin McManus call the last arrow.

Both of those accounts are true, but it is much deeper than that for me. I feel like I have lived four lives, or in other words, four major chapters of my life have been written and completed. Now, I am living my last and final chapter. I have had many stops and starts along the way, many failures, many losses, and have literally lost everything in my life three separate times. Having had to start over at the beginning each time.

After the last loss of my beloved Genesis House, and my marriage to the guy I had hoped to grow old with, I fully embrace what I always knew was true. That what I do with my life is what matters most, and it’s the only thing I have to give. I decided to give all I have left in this life to the work of the Lord. To Live out, as much as within my ability, Luke chapter 4 verse 18.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.”

This ministry, represents the last arrow in my quiver. I desire with all my heart to make the work of this ministry count and reach as many people with the love of God and the power of forgiveness and restoration as I can.

This is my Last Arrow.

“Today I had the absolute honor of presenting Kathy Looper with this years Volunteer of the Year award for Assembly District 26. The amount of the selfless that she has shown over the years is beyond count. It took me almost 10 minutes just to read through a quick list of all the work she has done for her community. Her newest project, Genesis House, is a much-needed shelter for runaway teen girls in the Tulare County area. Thank you again Kathy for all of your hard work and doing what you can to make District 26 just that much better.”
